Triscott Student Handbook
Everything you need to know about studying with Triscott — the program structure, your rights and responsibilities, and the policies that support your success.
1. Introduction
1.1 Welcome
Triscott delivers nationally recognised qualifications and accredited courses. This handbook provides information about Triscott, the program structure, and your role and responsibilities during the program. Trainers are happy to provide more information at any time to ensure your success.
1.2 Enrolment, Pre-Training Interview & LLN
You are enrolling in a competency-based qualification leading to a nationally recognised certificate. After completing the online enrolment form, staff conduct a pre-training interview to ensure you enrol in the most suitable program. If you have not completed any higher qualifications (Certificate III or above), you will complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment to confirm you have the foundation skills required. Students with special needs should indicate this on the enrolment form.
1.3 Language, Literacy & Numeracy Support
Triscott provides access to specialist support for students with specific language, literacy or numeracy needs, including continuous access to trainers and assessors, detailed course information, additional resources, flexible delivery, and access and family assistance.
1.4 Course Information
You will be provided with the course outline, training plan, language and literacy support, information on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Credit Transfer and national recognition, complaints and appeals processes, fees and refund information, entry prerequisites, assessment methods, and completion and qualification issuance information.
1.5 Trainer / Assessor
Your trainers can advise on any aspect of the course content, resources or assessment activities. Each trainer holds a training and assessment qualification and qualifications in the course they deliver, and engages in ongoing professional development to maintain industry currency.
1.6 Attendance & Training Engagement
You must attend all training sessions. Triscott requires students to attend at least 80% of all sessions to be deemed competent. If you cannot attend, contact your trainer beforehand. You are responsible for actively engaging and progressing through your program as agreed in your Training Plan. Trainers maintain contact throughout your course; if there is no contact within six weeks, you may be withdrawn (enrolment fees are not refunded). Extensions may be granted for justified reasons.
1.7 Change of Personal Details
You must inform Triscott of any change to your address or contact details within seven days, and of any name change (providing certified proof such as a marriage or name-change certificate).
1.8 Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Students must provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI) on enrolment. Create one at usi.gov.au. Acceptable forms of ID include a Driver's Licence, Medicare Card, Australian Passport, Visa (with non-Australian passport), Australian Birth Certificate (extract not sufficient), Certificate of Registration by Descent, Citizenship Certificate or ImmiCard. Contact the office or your trainer if you cannot access a USI.
2. Training
Triscott delivers training using flexible approaches including group-based classroom learning, online Zoom sessions and workplace practice, best suited to helping you achieve a nationally recognised qualification.
2.1 Competency-Based Assessment
Competency-based assessment is evidence-based — you provide evidence of your competence to your trainer/assessor. Evidence may be gathered through workplace or simulated observation, demonstrations and practical tasks, case studies, written assignments, role plays, questioning, a portfolio of evidence, practical placement tasks and reflections on work experience.
2.2 Training & Assessment Standards
Triscott is committed to high-quality training and assessment consistent with industry standards. We provide induction to all students, conduct regular reviews, consult with industry and regulatory groups, and continually improve our strategies. A certificate is awarded when a student satisfactorily demonstrates competency for the required units; where fewer units are completed, a Statement of Attainment is issued. Students assessed “Not Yet Competent” receive advice and two further opportunities to demonstrate competency in each unit.
3. Rights & Responsibilities
3.1 Student Rights
All students have the right to:
- be treated fairly and with respect by all students and staff;
- learn in a supportive, healthy and safe environment free from harassment, discrimination and victimisation;
- have personal details kept private and secure, and to access the information Triscott holds about them;
- have complaints dealt with fairly, promptly and confidentially, and to appeal procedural and assessment decisions;
- receive training, assessment and support that meets their individual needs;
- be given clear, accurate information about their course and progress; and
- provide feedback on the services they receive.
3.2 Student Responsibilities
All students must treat others with fairness and respect, follow all safety directions, complete work honestly and without plagiarism, make regular contact with their trainer, progress steadily through their course, notify Triscott of any changes or difficulties, give at least 24 hours' notice if unable to attend, refrain from smoking on the premises, and make payments within agreed timeframes.
3.3 Student Behaviour & 3.10 Misconduct
You must treat staff and fellow students respectfully. No derogatory or prejudicial comments regarding a person's culture, disability, gender, sexuality, religion or age are acceptable. Consumption of alcohol or illicit substances during training is unacceptable and may result in removal. Misconduct includes theft, fraud, violence or assault, discrimination or harassment, serious negligence, serious breach of confidentiality, and wilful disobedience.
3.4–3.8 Dress, Access & Equity, WHS, Welfare & General Requirements
Neat, comfortable clothing is appropriate for classroom sessions. Triscott abides by access and equity principles and does not discriminate under the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Triscott is committed to workplace health and safety — protect your own and others' health and safety and co-operate with all safety directives. Student welfare services include access to careers, disability, legal, housing, mental health and childcare support — speak to your trainer or the CEO. Smoking is not permitted within the building; advise your trainer of any personal health condition before commencing.
3.9 Disciplinary Procedures
- Any misconduct results in a formal meeting followed by a written warning.
- Any further incidents result in termination from the course without a refund.
- Serious misconduct results in immediate termination without a refund.
4. The Assessment Process
4.1 National Recognition — Credit Transfer
Triscott recognises qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by any other RTO in Australia. If you hold a qualification or Statement of Attainment with units equivalent to those in your program, you can apply for Credit Transfer by supplying a certified copy of your original transcript during the pre-training review. If units have no equivalency, you may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning.
4.2 Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL acknowledges the full range of your skills and knowledge, however acquired — through formal and informal study, work and life experience. Trainers assist you to understand the process and gather an evidence portfolio, followed by a competency conversation. The RPL process is: (1) outline relevant experience on the application form; (2) attend an interview with a qualified RPL assessor; (3) submit your portfolio and application; (4) receive an assessment report and, where competence cannot be established, a recommended gap-training program. Successful applicants proceed to further training or receive a Statement of Attainment.
4.3 Assessment
Trainers explain the assessment process before you begin. Assessment activities may include workbooks, role plays, on-the-job demonstrations, class presentations, and questions and case studies. Each task is marked Satisfactory or Not Satisfactory; you must obtain Satisfactory in all tasks to be deemed Competent. Grading is either “Competent” or “Not Yet Competent” — there is no mark or grade.
4.4 Student Integrity & Honesty
Cheating, plagiarism and collusion are unacceptable and treated seriously. Remember to acknowledge all reference materials used. Triscott uses student declarations, benchmark answers and multiple assessment methods to reduce these occurrences, and may review work (including with Grammarly) where cheating is suspected. Substantiated cases are recorded as Not Yet Competent, with a right of appeal.
5. Complaints & Appeals
A non-academic complaint concerns the provision of a service or inappropriate behaviour; academic appeals may include a request to review an assessment decision. Lodge a complaint with Triscott administration within 14 days of the issue arising. Management acknowledges receipt within five working days and aims to provide a written response within 10 working days of a review. To appeal an assessment decision, first try to resolve it informally, then complete the Complaints and Appeals Form and submit it to the CEO. If dissatisfied with the outcome, you may pursue external dispute resolution or raise the matter with ASQA.

6. Withdrawal & Completion
To withdraw, inform your trainer immediately and complete a Withdrawal/Completion Form so any completed units are awarded. Triscott may also withdraw students who are no longer actively engaged. Statements of Attainment are issued for units completed satisfactorily; full qualifications and statements of results are issued within 30 days of all assessments being deemed competent.
7. Fees & Refunds
Triscott advises students of all fees — course, administration and material fees — via the website, and confirms the total, payment terms and refund policy during the pre-training review. Key refund terms:
- All course fees (except for government-funded students) include a non-refundable deposit specified on the website, which covers a resources fee.
- Where Triscott cancels a course due to insufficient numbers or unforeseen circumstances, you are eligible for a refund.
- Students have a 7-day cooling-off period; if you decide not to progress, you receive a full refund of all monies paid.
- Students who withdraw and seek a refund must apply in writing; those who have not completed a withdrawal form are not eligible for consideration.
- Students withdrawn because Triscott cannot contact them, or who are disengaged, are not entitled to a refund.
8. Privacy
Triscott complies with the Privacy Amendment (Enhancing Privacy Protection) Act 2012 and will not provide student details to anyone other than the student, except as required by law or where a parent/guardian (for students under 18) signs the enrolment form. All personal and company details remain confidential and are stored securely with limited access. To view your student file, submit a written request to admin@triscott.edu.au. Under the National Privacy Principles, you may access and request corrections to your personal information. More information is available at oaic.gov.au.
9. Legislation
A range of legislation applies to Triscott staff and students. Triscott meets the requirements of, and complies with, relevant legislation, codes of practice and standards, including:
- Education and Training Reform Act 2006
- Equal Opportunity Act 2010
- Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and Regulations
- Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014

10. Evaluations
Triscott continuously improves its courses and periodically asks for feedback on trainers/assessors, course content, assessment tools, facilities and the administration team. This feedback forms part of our continuous improvement process. You must complete the NCVER Student Engagement survey towards the end of your program.
